France

France: so much to love…

Ask 10 people what they love about France and you will get 10 different answers. For some, it’s the fabulous food that ranges from simple artisan cheeses, toothsome charcuterie and rustic breads, to the sophisticated gastronomy of Michelin-starred restaurants with chefs such as Alain Ducasse, Guy Savoy and Anne-Sophy Pic at the helm. For others, exploring the historic vineyards and wine cellars that produce the fine wines and exquisite Champagnes France is famous for, is the reason they flock here.

Many admire the bright lights and enduring chic of Europe’s most stylish city, Paris. The Eiffel Tower needs little introduction, but the artists’ quarter of Montmartre and Versailles on the outskirts of the city are must-sees too. There’s also a wealth of architecture, art and galleries, such as the Louvre (home to the Mona Lisa), that make it a cultural centre that is second to none.

Those that adore sensational scenery are spoilt for choice here too – the rugged coastline of Corsica, the lavender fields of Provence, the beaches of Brittany and the wooded valleys of the Dordogne are all just waiting to be explored. Delight in endless rural vistas on a river cruise, ride a horse over the plains of Camargue, try kitesurfing in the South of France or cycle through the ancient villages and vineyards of Bordeaux. From the snowy peaks and glaciers of the Alps to the sparkling waters and sun-kissed beaches of the Cote d’Azur, it’s hard to imagine a country that is more picturesque.
`
While natural beauty abounds, there are man-made marvels aplenty too. The French capital is brimful of sights and attractions, but there is much more to explore elsewhere. There are Roman temples and a UNESCO-listed aqueduct in Nimes, Renaissance chateaux in the Loire and art galleries and museums in every town and city. Modern history enthusiasts will enjoy walking in the footsteps of the diggers in the Remembrance Trails of Northern France.

Whether you’re passionate about food and wine, culture, history, sport or nature, you’ll find more than you could ever dream of here – all made even more special with the unique ‘art de vivre’ the country is known for. Experience the world’s favourite holiday destination for yourself and, with so much to explore, see, do and taste, you’ll find it hard not to fall in love with France.
